Discover its story.
Family owned since 1941, the Château de la Maltroye is located in the heart of the village of Chassagne-Montrachet. The castle and its roof of 18th century varnished tiles has superb 15th century cellars.
The Domaine is composed of 13 Ha on Chassagne-Montrachet and 2 Ha on Santenay. Production of about 70,000 bottles per year; 60% in white (Chardonnay), 40% in red (Pinot noir) of which 70% of 1st crus among the most prestigious of the Côte de Beaune.
Mechanical soil cultivation, rational struggle for treatments and control of yields are the quality-oriented policy of the Domaine. The grapes thus obtained, harvested and sorted manually, guarantee the production of fine wine for long aging.
– Red wines: 100% de-stemming, 10 days of cold pre-fermentation maceration, 20-25 days of cuvaison under temperature control in self-‘pigeage’ stainless steel tanks. 14 months of aging in oak barrels on fine lies. Light filtration before bottling at the Domaine.
– White wines: Pressing within two hours of grapes harvest, beginning of alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks under temperature control, then end of fermentation in barrels. After 12 months of wine aging, light fining and filtration before bottling at the Domaine.
