Discover its story.
Blain-Gagnard is first and foremost the story of an encounter. The one of Claudine Gagnard, from Chassagne, and Jean-Marc Blain, from the Sancerre vineyard. From this union, the Blain-Gagnard estate was born in 1980. Located in the heart of Chassagne, our house has been working on vines and wine as a heritage since 1683. It is in this principle of respect for the work of the “elders” that the estate has been built and has evolved to make great representative wines of the Côte de Beaune terroirs.
We are currently working 8 hectares in white and red on the Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, Volnay and Pommard appellations. Each plot is meticulously maintained to allow the vine to produce high quality grapes.
The rows are naturally grassed to promote the vitality of the soil, and we work in plowing between the vines. Each seasonal job is done manually, from pruning to harvesting the sorted berries.
Our estate strives to produce precise and aging wines, typical of their “locality”. The plots are sometimes close, however, each have their own character, depending on the typicity of the soils and the exposure.
We strive to produce wines with great tension and minerality representative of their terroir, to offer fresh, complex and elegant wines for tasting.
Our vinification is traditional with maturing in oak barrels from large French national forests. It lasts from 11 months for whites to 18 months for our red wines.
